What is DirectAdmin?
DirectAdmin (often shortened to DA) is a graphical hosting/server management panel that lets you manage a website through a control panel designed for fast, easy operation — file management, domain creation, email/database config and basic security are all simpler, even without heavy command-line use.
Runs on Linux, compatible with CloudLinux, Ubuntu, Debian and some Red Hat-based systems (version-dependent). Minimum requirements: 500 MHz CPU, at least 1GB RAM, at least 2GB disk — significantly lighter than cPanel/Plesk in the same class.
BKNS offers the DirectAdmin license monthly: DA Lite and DA Standard, including free IP change. Note: as of 2020-07-01, the lifetime DirectAdmin license was discontinued and no longer supports IP changes on old lifetime licenses.
Key advantages
✅ Lightweight, resource-efficient
✅ Simple, easy-to-use interface
✅ Low license cost
✅ High stability, few minor bugs
✅ Solid support for common hosting services
✅ Suits many kinds of users
Trade-offs to know
BKNS gives an honest recommendation so you pick the right control panel for your needs — DirectAdmin isn't the perfect fit for every case:
⚠️ Simpler interface, less polished than cPanel/Plesk
⚠️ Smaller plugin/add-on ecosystem
⚠️ Documentation and community support aren't as extensive
⚠️ Not the friendliest for complete beginners
⚠️ Fewer advanced features "out of the box" — needs extra setup via CustomBuild/plugins
Who it's a good fit for
- Individuals/freelancers managing their own site (1-5 sites)
- Small and medium businesses (SMEs) — brochure sites, landing pages, internal email
- Small-to-medium hosting providers/resellers — clear Admin/Reseller/User permission tiers
- Users with basic hosting/DNS/email/Linux knowledge
- Projects that need a stable, low-churn system
Not a good fit if: you're completely new to hosting, or need a complex cloud setup with lots of advanced features built in — a higher-tier panel (cPanel/Plesk) suits those cases better.

The price on this page is BKNS's list price, including free IP change at no extra charge.
No. As of 2020-07-01, DirectAdmin discontinued the lifetime license and no longer supports IP changes for old lifetime licenses. BKNS now only offers monthly licenses (Lite/Standard).
Yes. Contact BKNS to upgrade to DA Standard (unlimited accounts + domains); you're charged the price difference prorated for the remaining license period.
500 MHz CPU, at least 1GB RAM, at least 2GB disk — much lower than cPanel/Plesk, suited to small VPS configurations. In practice, 2GB+ RAM is recommended for stable operation alongside mail/database services.
Compatible with Imunify360 (v3.1.3+), CSF firewall, ClamAV, JetBackup, LiteSpeed Cache — installed via CustomBuild or DirectAdmin's official plugin marketplace.
